Activities
The key focal point of our activities is the monthly members’ gathering where we conduct pitching sessions and discuss investment issues and club affairs.
The board, committees and investee company-focused groups meet separately for specific purposes.
Members are encouraged to attend the monthly gatherings and actively participate in club activities to the extent their travel and work commitments allow.

A strategic entrepreneur specializes in business innovation & tech enablement and cross-border e-commerce injecting vitality into companies. As a serial entrepreneur and intrapreneur, Lui has managed global MNCs, founded several startups, and pivoted businesses internationally. She has worked closely with online leaders from Alibaba, Amazon, JD, Rakuten, and Coupang, established global cross-border eCommerce networks and tapped into AI IoTs in the early days. Ms. Tong was named in the Top 50 Innovative Retail Leaders in Hong Kong, is a VP of the Hong Kong Federation of eCommerce, and the President of the University of Washington Alumni Association in Hong Kong.
Alex Chen

Alex Chen is an experienced strategy and market research consultant with deep experience in analyzing markets and designing sustainable business ICT solutions for technology companies including Amazon, Qualcomm and Microsoft through leveraging his diverse background in financial planning, reporting, business control, and strategic business analysis with responsibilities for global business units and functions.Previously Controller for NSP at Hewlett Packard then Director of Strategy for Education at Microsoft, Alex has a BSc in Psychology from University of Alberta, MBA from Columbia Business School and Certification from Harvard Business School Executive Education.
Charles K. Cheng
Director and Deals Committee Chair
Charles K. Cheng is Vice Chairman and Past President of AAMA PRD Chapter after spending 20 years in various marketing and business development roles in Silicon Valley and Asia. Charles has led and launched products and businesses with record-breaking revenues of >US$500 million, drove M&A deals and founded entrepreneurial ventures. Charles is an active angel investor with current investments in China and Silicon Valley. His target investment areas include multimedia, internet infrastructure, robotics, software and storage. Charles received BA in Engineering Science from Oxford University and MBA from Stanford University.
Jason Lau
Director and Education Committee Chair
Jason is an investment banker turned tech entrepreneur/investor with experiences in the capital market, e-commerce, blockchain/cryptocurrencies, software development, marketing strategies and venture capital. He is the CEO and Co-founder of KALO Inc., a social e-commerce marketplace and digital marketing engine. Prior to his tech adventure, his finance career in Equities and ECM spanned across Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and and BOCOM International among cities of New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Jason is also an Executive Director of Pak Tak Trading Co Ltd. that engages in metal trading business and property investments. He serves as an Executive Committee member of the Hong Kong Digital Asset Society. Jason received a B.A. from Tufts University, an M.S. from Columbia University, and an MBA from Tsinghua University/MIT.
Mike Grundy
Director and Fellowship Committee Chair
Mike has 40 years of experience in the Pulp and Paper Industry in various parts of the world. After attaining his bachelors in Paper Science, he worked in paper manufacturing before moving to provide chemical solutions to pulp and paper industry. For the first 20 years of his career, he worked in England and North Europe before moving to Asia in 1996. In 2000, Mike co-founded Amazon Papyrus Chemicals (Hong Kong) and has been leading the company as a CEO since that date. Under his prudent leadership, innovative vision for chemical solutions, and financial acumen, Amazon Papyrus has established itself as a leading solution provider for process chemicals to the Pulp and Paper Industry in Asia Pacific region. Presently Amazon employs almost 500 people in various countries.
Steve Phan

In his 25 year experience in the financial industry, the last decade of which as Managing Director, Steve held positions in a range of businesses ranging from corporate lending, financial markets and derivatives, primarily in London, New York, and Hong Kong, within Paribas, Merrill Lynch, HSBC and Standard Chartered. He holds an MSc in Aerospace Engineering from ENSAE (France) and and MBA from the University of Chicago.

Ivan Yim
Founding Member and Treasurer
Ivan is a director of Centalent CPA in Hong Kong. He has a bachelor degree in social sciences and a master degree in corporate finance. He was also awarded with the practising and specialist certificates (corporate finance) by the Hong Kong Securities Institute. With over 30 years of setting up financial operations for companies in Asia, he has worked as financial controller, company secretary and CFO across various industries. He has advised on providing corporate finance and restructuring multinational companies. Ivan also actively participates in IPO works in Singapore and Hong Kong and helps fund raising of new setup companies.
John Lo
Founding Chairman
John is a senior level corporate commercial lawyer, qualified in both California and Hong Kong, and has been in private practice in both jurisdictions for over three decades. He started investing as an angel since the late 1990s, and has been a lawyer to startups and investors, as well as startup co-founder and advisor in the two decades. He holds BA, JD, MBA, all from the University of California, Berkeley, among other degrees. He is co-author/contributors to two books: Angel Financing: Principles and Practice for Investors and Entrepreneurs (Chinese, ET Press, 2009), and Angel Financing in Asia Pacific, a Guidebook for Investors and Entrepreneurs (Emerald, 2017). He is also an advisor to the Seraph Group, a US based angel fund.
Luis Lui

Advisor / mentor for start-up companies focusing on accelerating growth, with experience running global and Asia Pacific business for high tech companies in the areas of enterprise software , software as a services ( SaaS) , internet services and IOT solutions. Luis graduated with an engineering and a management degree from McGill University, Canada.

Financial professional with a solid network in Greater China and North America. Broad experience in fundraising, new market entry strategies and business development of entrepreneurial companies. Extensive experience in incubation, angel investing, venture capital, private equity, real estate, information technology, healthcare and F&B. Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Accounting from the University of Alberta.
Alex Yue
Alex is actively involved in technology investments and venture capital, specializing in early stage companies in the global healthcare space. He has sourced and participated in several early round investments in biotech and green technologies. Previously, Alex has had experience in biomedical research and was part of the investment team at TVM Capital. He is also a Director of Innopipe Engineering Co Ltd, engaging in infrastructure construction and materials trading and distribution. Alex received a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a M.Eng from Cornell University.
Anthony Wu
Mr. Wu has over 20 years experience in equity investment research, specialising in the Asia real estate industry. Before retiring in 2016, he was managing director of the global investment research division of Goldman Sachs (Asia), spearheading the effort of building and managing a regional real estate investment research team across major Asia markets including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Japan. He obtained a master’s degree in accounting and finance from London School of Economics and Political Science.
Edmund Fan
Over 20 years of experience in managing an education business, private equity investments and a R&D technology company startup. Edmund is a qualified Hong Kong solicitor, focusing on civil litigation and commercial cases. Edmund graduated with a degree in Business Economics (University of Salford, UK) and a degree in Law (Nottingham Law School, UK).
Dr Felix Fu Keung Li
30 years of experience in medical practice with specialization in kidney disease. Trained in laboratory research and clinical science, Dr Li is an honorary consultant at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital and the Canossa Hospital (Caritas) Hong Kong. Graduated from the Medical School of the University of Hong Kong and accredited as a specialist in nephrology.
Francois Vandenheste
Founder of one of the largest trading companies in Hong Kong for consumer electronics and home appliances, serving French and European supermarket chains. Finalist of the IoT/M2M Innovation World Cup (2016).
Jimmy Chen
Jimmy Chen is Managing Partner and Chief Enabling Officer of Amrop China, a talent and leadership success solution firm. Before that, Jimmy held global and regional executive positions at Aleris, Noveon, and Dow Chemical. Jimmy shares with his local and foreign clients what it takes to succeed in cross-cultural and globalization management – from market entry, greenfield, JV, M&A, restructuring, board design to major stakeholder relationship – covering various sectors including chemicals, consumer, new retail, digital, mobility, agriculture, renewables and private equity; and spanning across both private and public sectors. Jimmy holds bachelor and master degrees from the University of Manchester and the University of Stirling. He also attended leadership programs at IMD, INSEAD and the Kelley School of Business. Married with two sons and two hounds, he enjoys traveling, racket sports and helping entrepreneurial and innovative leaders achieve sustainable success and happiness.
Joseph Chang
After 20+ years in senior roles in equities, trading and derivatives, Joseph has more recently embarked on a new career in Fintech. He has co-founded a trading firm focused on digital assets, as well as an AI driven stock investment platform for retail investors. Joseph has an engineering degree from Boston University and an MBA from Rutgers University.
Lionel Marrie
Over 30 years experience in manufacturing Kitchenware in China as partner and managing director of Jensen Industrial limited.
Lionel is also an investor and active partner in various enterprises and start-ups in Asia and France. He graduated from Neoma business School in France.
Mark Yong
Mark has over 20 years’ experience in the Supply Chain and biotechnology industry. He was an early member of the e-commerce giant, Alibaba as well as a co-investor/board member of 2 biopharma start ups, Comprehensive Drug Enterprise and Alephoson Biopharmaceutics. A major part of his career was spent in emerging markets such as Vietnam, Cambodia, China and India, alongside the UK.
Mark is also a business mentor for SowAsia (Social Enterprise). He holds a Degree and DPhil in Molecular Biology (Liverpool & Oxford University, UK) and was a researcher at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Mr. Fung is a seasoned investment and asset management veteran, specialising in the Asia Pacific region, particularly Greater China. With extensive experience in diverse institutions, including a Hong Kong blue chip conglomerate and global financial organizations, he has played a pivotal role in partnering with various investors, such as family offices, listed companies, and Chinese university-sponsored enterprises. His expertise spans private equity fundraising, investor relations, real estate investment, project development, M&A, and asset and facility management. He has successfully implemented investment and asset management strategies in new start-up platforms in the Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asian region.

Simon Lo
Simon has been a real estate practitioner for more than 25 years focusing on market research and project advisory. He served a board range of companies from stockbrokers, banks to real estate consultancy firms. Based in Hong Kong, he has launched his real estate consulting firm since February 2016 and operated an on-line real estate intelligence platform namely, www.realtythinktanks.com. He is also a licensed real estate agent (E-395442) in Hong Kong. Apart from investment sales advisory, he has been providing independent real estate consultancy services to financiers, private equities and investment managers. He holds BSc (Estate Management) from University of Reading, UK and MSc (Real Estate) from University of Hong Kong.
